Learning Journeys –
Innovative Learning Formats
for the Modern Workplace
Sustainable development instead of one-off training
Many training programs provide valuable insights—but real change rarely happens in a single workshop. True development takes time, practical application in everyday work, and space for reflection. That’s exactly where our Learning Journeys come in.
Our Learning Journeys combine short learning impulses with hands-on application in daily work and support individuals, teams, and organizations over an extended period of time. New perspectives are not just understood—they are tested, reflected upon, and continuously refined.
This concept is based on current findings in learning psychology: learning is most effective when it is spread over time, applied in real-life situations, and reflected on through exchange with others.
In this way, learning becomes not a one-time event, but an ongoing development process.

Learning journeys combine brief learning opportunities, practical application, and ongoing reflection—thereby fostering sustainable development in everyday work.
How Learning Journeys work
A Learning Journey consists of several short, sequential modules. In line with the journey metaphor, we call these “stages.”
These stages are easy to integrate into everyday work and ensure that development happens step by step. Between stages, participants continue working independently and apply new insights directly in their daily practice. Supporting materials, exercises, and reflection questions guide this process.
Typical elements of a Learning Journey include:
-
Short, iterative learning units
-
Input, reflection, and practical exercises
-
Direct transfer into everyday work
-
Feedback and peer exchange
-
Small group collaboration
-
Structured guides and materials
-
Professional facilitation
This creates a learning process that integrates organically into daily work and enables real, lasting change.
What Learning Journeys enable
Learning Journeys create a framework where individual development and collaborative learning come together.
Participants learn to:
-
Recognize and develop their own thinking and behavior patterns
-
Build a shared understanding of values, responsibility, and collaboration
-
Better understand the perspectives of others
-
Strengthen networking and collaboration within the organization
The result is sustainable change—not only in mindset, but in everyday actions.
Self-Organized Learning with Depth
The Power of Learning Circles: Growing Together in Small Groups
The Learning Journey takes place in small, consistent groups known as Learning Circles, ideally consisting of four to six participants. This social setting fosters a trusting group dynamic, where participants support each other as feedback partners and grow together over the course of 12 stages.
A key feature of this format is its strong emphasis on self-organization. The group independently decides on the location, timing, and rhythm of their meetings. Roles such as facilitation and timekeeping rotate within the group to ensure active participation from everyone.

Learning Journeys On Demand
The Learning Journey format offers distinct advantages—especially when it comes to developing mindset, organizational culture, soft skills, and everyday behaviors across larger groups of people. Our Learning Journey design studios bring their experience and expertise to translate organization-specific topics into tailored Learning Journey formats.
Depending on the topic and target audience, elements from existing Learning Journeys can be adapted, expanded, or further developed.
If needed, we also support the creation of supporting structures and the training of internal Learning Journey facilitators. This enables organizations to run Learning Journeys entirely independently. For inquiries, contact us at kontakt@lernwelt-ds.de to request your customized Learning Journey.
